ADHD in the Boardroom

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder and Hyperactivity can cause issues in concentration in the classroom, but did you know that researchers are investigating a link between these conditions and successful entrepreneurs?

I recently read an article which discussed the fact that some traits of ADHD such as hyperactivity or impulsivity which cause issues in the classroom, could be seen as positive factors in the boardroom. Many people with ADHD are very creative, take risks and have high energy, all of which are necessary skills for a successful entrepreneur.

It is interesting to note that not only does Richard Branson (the founder of the Virgin group) have dyslexia, but he also has ADHD and he has found these skills to be valuable in business.

People with ADHD generally have the ability to think outside of the box. They are able to find creative solutions to seriously complex issues and are often natural leaders, making them the perfect entrepreneurs.

RMIT business research centre are conducting to study on this very topic. I am looking forward to learning what they find out.

As I’ve said before, we must not focus solely on the challenges our children face, but celebrate their strengths and where they can lead them.
